Update notices

Tell servers on an older version that a new one is out, and warn the ones on a version with a serious bug. Set up in the dashboard, no release needed.

How it works

In Updates, set the latest version and the message. Servers on an older version learn about it in the reply to their next hourly report, so it costs no extra request. The page also shows how many active servers are up to date and how many are behind.

Critical versions: versions belowServers below this version get the critical message instead, logged as a warning. Leave it empty to turn it off.
Critical messageUp to 300 characters, same placeholders.

Only the plugin's owner can change these settings. After saving, servers pick them up within an hour.

Placeholders and colors

PlaceholderBecomes
{plugin}Your plugin's name in the dashboard
{current}The version the server runs
{latest}The latest version
{url}Your download link

Use & color codes (&a, &7, &l…). They're shown in chat and removed in the console. The defaults:

&a{plugin} {latest} is available &7(you have {current})&a. Download: &f{url}
&c{plugin} {current} has a serious problem. Please update to {latest}: &f{url}

How versions are compared

The version in your plugin.yml is compared with the latest one number by number: 1.10.0 is newer than 1.9.2. Anything that isn't a number is ignored, so 1.4.0-SNAPSHOT counts as 1.4.0. Servers on the latest version or a newer one see nothing.

Who sees it

  • The console, once per server start for each new version.
  • Admins in chat when they join, if that setting is on: operators, and players with the <plugin>.notify permission, where <plugin> is your plugin's name in lowercase (arenaplus.notify). Each admin sees it once per server start.
  • Server owners can hide every notice and feedback prompt with notify-admins: false in plugins/PluginAnalytics/config.yml. For server owners

In code

analytics.noticePermission("arenaplus.admin"); // who gets notices on join (operators always do)
analytics.updateNotices(false); // never show update notices from this plugin

Tips

  • Reading the latest version from SpigotMC or Modrinth means one less thing to update on release day.
  • Keep critical versions for real problems (data loss, crashes, exploits), so admins take the warning seriously.
